He married Eliza Gattey (1832-1896), daughter of Joseph Gattey and Mary Thorn, 10 August 1856 in Exeter. They had ten children. They emigrated in 1872 and settled in Leavenworth, Kansas. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in England, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and California.
