Book excerpt: Due to the proliferation of information and communication technology (ICT) and Web 2.0 technologies in the 21st century, libraries now play a more dynamic role in the knowledge society. This new function is a result of the emergence of these technologies. The human has the ability to impact technology in the same manner that they are influenced by information and communication technology (ICT). This comment provides an explanation of how the existence of digital information has an effect on the essential features of libraries via its explanation. There is a rapid increase in the quantity of digital information resources that are available, and these resources have the potential to be easily accessible simultaneously by a large number of receivers. As a consequence of this transformation, traditional libraries are presented with a broad variety of challenges that pose a danger to their ability to continue existing. The staff members working in modern academic libraries have to have enhanced their technical abilities in order to fulfill the expectations of the customers who use their services. They are obligated to adjust to the new technologies that are being brought into the market. The construction of digital libraries, the establishment of institutional repositories, and the gathering of knowledge about open archives are some of the new trends that have emerged in the modern period. The digitization of libraries has evolved into an essential component of the work that librarians conduct, and the vast majority of libraries are now participating in digitalization efforts.
