This book was released on 1999 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The synthesis of a novel superbase 2 is discussed in chapter 4. This new class of bicyclic strong nonionic Lewis bases 1 and 2 have been employed (chapter 5) for the direct catalytic synthesis of a variety of functionalized [alpha], [beta]-unsaturated nitriles in high yields from aldehydes and acetonitrile or benzyl cyanide at 40-50 0C. The migration of carbon-carbon double bonds towards aromatic rings and carbon-carbon double bonds to give a thermodynamically stable conjugated system in 40-99% yield using the nonionic superbase 2 as a catalyst under an inert atmosphere in acetonitrile as a solvent is presented in chapter 6. Chapter 7 describes a practical method for the synthesis of substituted benzofuran-2-ethyl carboxylate from substituted 2-formylphenoxy ethylcarboxylate in 80-99% yield using 1 as a catalyst. The last chapter includes potential further applications for 1 and 2.
