Book excerpt: Excerpt from Selected Relics of Japanese Art, Vol. 17 In our further research, we came across an account by Prince Sanetaka Sam-6 (died 1537) from his diary, under date of l6th day, 3rd month. 8th year of Taiyei (1528) Looked over the Sutra of Causal Events (illustrated) and written by the Imperial hand of Emperor Shému: a very rare and valuable one, I thought it. The fasciculus in the Fine Art School retains the print ofa seal, which is still legible, thus: Treasure handed down in Kofukuji. Thinking from these facts that this manuscript was once possessed by the temple, K6fuku11, Nara, and in the periods Taiyei and Kyérokn (l52l - l53l) it was so much esteemed among the nobility that it was secured by the Nakayama family, we suspected that the fourth section, perhaps, would have been deposited about that time. The former half ofthe fourth section must have been lost after it was withdrawn from Nan-in, and before the latter half was recovered and came into the possession of the Art School. Some careful research may, perhaps, cause this to appear again to us. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
