Book excerpt: The 16th ICAAR should have taken place between 16 and 18 June 2020, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic crisis affecting countries all over the world since the beginning of 2020, the event was successively postponed, first to October 2020, afterwards to June 2021 and, finally, to May 31 - June 2, 2022, in the expectation of being possible to offer an in-person event, aiming to enhance the contact between the technical and scientific community and allow a broad discussion of the themes of the conference. For this reason, the conference was renamed to ICAAR 2020-2022. In these circumstances, it was decided to publish a first volume of Proceedings of the 16th ICAAR with the papers approved by the Scientific Committee by the end of 2020. Thus, the Proceedings of the 16th ICAAR will have two volumes: Volume 1 that includes the 164 papers submitted and peerreviewed by the end of 2020; and Volume 2 which will include the key-note lectures and the papers received in 2021 and 2022. It is expected that all the papers will be presented in the in-person event.
