In order to discuss the different effects of a departure from net neutrality, the literature on the subject is reviewed and the measures taken by the Federal Communications Commission on the US market are used as a practical example. The analysis focuses on the effects of the different pricing structures on Welfare as well as on investment and innovation. Moreover, the risk and consequences of vertical foreclosure are dealt with. The investigation is followed by a regulation proposal for Switzerland.
