Certain metal complexes and chelates show changes in colour upon heating and cooling or compressing their solutions; or have different colours in different solvents. Even in solid state, colour changes can be observed with heating and pressure. With structural elucidations and spectral measurements, these chromotropic phenomena can be interpreted in terms of modern inorganic chemistry theories.
