Book Synopsis Generation of Animals by : Aristotle

Download or read book Generation of Animals written by Aristotle and published by Aeterna Press. This book was released on 2015-09-01 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THIS translation has been made from Bekker’s octavo text, Oxford, 1837. I have also used Aubert and Wimmer’s edition, with German translation and notes, Leipzig, 1860, referred to by me as ‘AW..’ I must confess to finding this work somewhat disappointing; the translation often fails to make the connexion of thought intelligible, and the notes are very scanty and sometimes incorrect. Much greater is my debt to Dr. Ogle’s Aristotle on the Parts of Animals, London, 1882; without this model before me I should never have ventured on so hazardous an enterprise. References to his Introduction are given with his name and the Roman numeral of the page (e.g. ‘see Ogle, p. xxix’), to his notes with the pages and lines of the Berlin edition (e.g. ‘Ogle on 641b 17’).
