Since most readers are unacquainted with the porcelain of this period, it seemed essential to provide a large number of photographs to corroborate my arguments. They have been taken mainly of lesser known pieces in private collections, many of their owners prefering to remain anonymous, since it often appears that the possibilities of theft and tax evoke similar feelings among collectors.--Preface.
