The chapters in this volume take on a range of these issues, and leading scholars of the history and culture of Egypt, Greece and the eastern regions of the Graeco-Roman world assess the importance of travel in a world much less sedentary than often assumed. Indeed, their work shows that travel was embedded in the cultures of the ancient eastern Mediterranean.
