Book excerpt: A numerical approach based on the finite-difference method and incremental solution procedure has been developed for analyzing the thermo-elastic-plastic problem of a thick-walled cylinder with temperature-dependent yield stress. The cylinder is subjected to a combination of internal pressure and temperature variation. The material is assumed to obey the von Mises' yield criterion, the associated flow theory, and the isotropic hardening rule. Some numerical results for the displacements and stresses are presented.
