Book excerpt: In the Introduction the author describes the experience which led him to write the book, and on which much of it is based. He then considers seven themes: these are myth, time, evil, purity, images, renunciation, and woman. Each theme is allotted a chapter in which it is considered first within a Hindu and then within a Christian context. This treatment brings out the differences and similarities between the two traditions in ways which are often unexpected. In the final chapter he examines the implications of his findings both for the theology of religions and for inter-faith encounter.
