Book excerpt: Distorted is a testimony of a young girl named Karah Row. Her story involves her early childhood years struggling with self-image, that quickly turns into a life altering eating disorder. As Karah grows older, she starts to encounter other struggles in life, including boys, depression, and self-harm. Karah seeks to find someone she can trust but very quickly gets blindsided. Feeling lost and broken, Karah keeps running back to her addiction for comfort. Distorted was written from a Christian perspective, so throughout this story, the author tries to get the readers to recognize where the enemy keeps getting a hold of Karah. But God, who is so merciful and powerful, carries Karah through her journey in life and eventually pulls her out of the darkness. But it starts with Karah allowing God to take the reins in every area of her life. But that is not all. Too often when stories about addictions end once they receive recovery. But in most realities, addictions and mental health do not end with recovery. Life goes on; however, the triggers and consequences of our past actions still arise. It is how we choose to deal with thoughts and triggers that bring us true recovery and freedom. We as humans, were not meant to carry our burdens alone, God wants you to lay them down at the foot of the cross. Allow the Lord to guide your hand in every direction of your life. True freedom comes through the strength of God and not our own.
