The method consist of (I) collection and analysis of the geological date demarcate the probable failure planes controlled by the various discontinuity surfaces, (ii) calculation of the normal and shear forces acting on the failure planes, and (iii) the evaluation of the shearing resistance from the laboratory or the field tests. An example of calculation of factor of safety in a quartrite rock slope has been given.
