Mughal painting is a style of South Asian painting, generally confined to small sized format works either as book illustrations or as single works to be kept in albums, which emerged from Persian miniature painting, with Indian Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist influences, and developed during the period of the Mughal Empire (16th -19th centuries). Mughal painting was rich in variety and included portraits, events and scenes from court life, wild life and hunting scenes, and illustrations of battles. This work contains 16 color plates accompanied by the author's commentary on the artist, the work, and the circumstances under which it was created.
