He married Rosanda Allard on 23 Mar 1851 at Shefford, Quebec and in 1870 the family traveled by train from Quebec to Marshalltown, Iowa. Ox team and wagon took them to Spencer and in 1873 they were in Austin, Minnesota. Nathan died in 1874 at Sheffield, Iowa and was buried in Austin.
