This day is dedicated to celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women all over the world. It is also an opportunity to draw attention to the ongoing struggle for gender equality and women's rights across the globe. Throughout history, women have had to fight for their right to vote, to receive an education, to work outside of the home, and to be treated equally under the law. While progress has been made, there is still a long way to go before women are truly equal to men in all areas of life. International Women's Day is a reminder of both how far we've come and how far we still have to go. By bringing attention to the challenges faced by women and celebrating their victories, we can all work towards a more equitable and just world. The theme for International Women's Day 2021 is "Choose to Challenge". This theme encourages everyone to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. It is a reminder that we all have a role to play in creating a more gender-equal world. The COVID-19 pandemic has also highlighted the gender inequalities that still exist in our society. Women make up the majority of frontline workers and healthcare professionals, but they also face the burden of caring for children and elderly family members at home. Domestic violence rates have also increased during the pandemic, showing how important it is to continue fighting for women's rights. On International Women's Day, we can choose to challenge these inequalities and work towards creating a more equal and just world for everyone.
