Book excerpt: The author discusses many lies and bizarre statements that have been made by militant atheists over the years. For example, Darwin said that when "higher races" extermination "lower races," that is "the progress of civilization." He thought it was a good thing. He also said, in chapter 6 of his book "The Descent of Man," that blacks are more closely related to gorillas than white people are. Richard Dawkins has written that Hitler was a Catholic while he was dictator. Not one single historian believes that. The truth is that the pope, in 1930, declared that Catholics were not allowed to belong to the Nazi Party, so if Hitler was a Catholic, why did he not quit the Nazi Party in 1930? The answer is obvious: because he wasn't a Catholic. Read biographies of Hitler and you will never read about him going to church, or going to confession, or praying or reading the Bible, because he never did those things. Instead he had thousands of Catholic priests and nuns arrested. Why would he do that, if he was a Catholic? Dawkins also says that the Bosnian War was caused by religion. The truth is that the war was caused by the Serb dictator, Slobodan Milosevic, and he was an atheist. He was a high-ranking member of the Yugoslav Communist Party for years, when members were required to be atheists. The militant atheist Christopher Hitchens has also spread his share of lies. He wrote once that Christianity "imposed" slavery on the United States. That is ridiculous. Slavery was caused by greed, not religion, and it existed long before Christianity did. Hitchens also claims that a Catholic bishop named Augustin Misago committed murder during the Rwandan genocide. The truth is that Misago was tried by the International Tribunal and acquitted. Hitchens also claims that there is no evidence that Christians behave better than atheists, but the truth is that a massive study carried out by Harvard sociologists found that young men who go to church every week are much less likely to commit crimes than young men who do not. Carl Sagan, an atheist, once claimed that school board members all across the United States are intentionally making public schools lousy because they want the American people to be stupid so they will never question authority. He presented no evidence to support this paranoid conspiracy theory. The militant atheist Sam Harris wants to legalize heroin, cocaine, LSD and amphetamines. He also has written that Christianity caused the Holocaust. The truth is that not one single high-ranking person in Hitler's government was a Christian. Harris himself doesn't name a single one. Neither does he name any Christian bishops or theologians who ever said that exterminating the Jews would be a good thing to do. On page 102 of his book "The End of Faith," Harris says that some Germans in the nineteenth century advocated exterminating the Jews, but he doesn't say any of those Germans were Christians, so he is tacitly admitting that they were not, yet this fact makes no impression on him. Harris also cannot bear to admit that Stalin, an atheist, intentionally killed millions of people by starvation, so he falsely claims that those people died only because Stalin followed a grossly mistaken agricultural policy. No historian who has studied the subject believes that. Perhaps Harris's weirdest statement was when he said that if super-intelligent aliens from outer space arrived on Earth, and if they enjoyed killing human beings and eating them, there would be nothing immoral about them doing that. And that is just a small sample of the lies and bizarre statements by atheists that can be found in this book.
