Book excerpt: The use of ALL CAPS in written text signifies shouting, strong emotion, and emphasis on the capitalized words. When applying the same concept to capitalism, ALL CAPS takes on a symbolic meaning - the ability to capitalize and emphasize one's own economic potential. Just as capital letters stress important ideas, capitalism provides frameworks for individuals to leverage their skills, ambitions, work ethic and talent to "shout from the rooftops" in pursuit of profit and self-advancement. ALL CAPS means enabling people to pump up the volume on their human capital - raising their value and amplifying their worth in markets for labor, goods and services. When people CAPITAlize under capitalism, economic systems allow them to highlight, underscore and accentuate their means to prosper. So while internet slang uses all caps for volume, in capitalism the term underscores methods for people to crank the dial up on capitalizing success. In today's interconnected world, we have more opportunities than ever to capitalize on our skills and talents to build personal success and wealth. CAPITALIZING means seizing those opportunities to maximize our potential—raising ourselves up by bringing out the best of our individual abilities. That drive to elevate ourselves is at the very core of capitalism as an economic system. This book, "ALL CAPS", examines how ALL of us can CAPITALIZE on this capitalist system to our benefit. When written, all capital letters are used to place EMPHASIS, to highlight IMPORTANT words that drive HOME a point. We will apply that same emphasis on the power of capitalizing through a capitalist society to achieve higher status, influence, and mobility. Capitalism provides economic MODELS for individuals to CAPITALIZE through marshalling talent, work ethic, intelligence, and ambition to profit.
