From there, in 1943, she was deported by the Italians to the Dalmatian islands (first to Brac, then to Korcula), where she lived, together with other Jews, in "free internment." In September 1943, when the Italians left Yugoslavia, she fled to the partisan-held island of Lastovo, and then to the liberated area of Italy.
